Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Intense pulsed light, also known as IPL, Photorejuvenation or Photo- facial, is a non-invasive treatment that is used to help correct skin damage without disrupting the skin surface. IPL can be used to safely and effectively treat a wide variety of concerns: broken capillaries, blotchy skin, brown discolouration, age or “liver” spots, freckles, flushing or rosacea, redness, enlarged pores, mild wrinkles and scarring. The face and other areas, such as the hands, chest, arms or shoulders may be effectively treated. IPL is fast and virtually painless with results that are often dramatic.
Both men and woman of all ages may benefit, especially those with brown blemishes or redness. Patients with a tan or who are very dark are not the best candidates for IPL.
We use the latest, state-of-the-art Lumenis 1 IPL machine. Unlike most IPL machines, the Lumenis 1 generates a computer file for each patient, allowing it to tailor each treatment to the patient’s individual skin type. Each treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. After IPL your face will appear red or flushed, but this usually fades in a few hours. On average, a series of 5 treatments (spaced 3 weeks apart) is needed to see improvement.
Microdermabrasion is often used to prepare the skin for IPL treatment; it removes the surface skin and makes IPL work more effectively.
